Epic, blazing Wall of Sound (supplied by producer Phil Spector). Hopes, needs, fears and embarrassments, successes (always followed by failures) in love - vividly related by a man in his forties. Cohen broke out of the bedsit with this record, only to find himself in endless dark hotel corridors and halls of mirrors. Stylistically untypical, it is one of the great break-up albums. Strange and wonderful, disturbing - and very funny. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
