The Symphonic Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio (known abroad under the name Budapest Symphony Orchestra, BPSO) was founded on Ernő Dohnányi’s initiative in 1943. Its main task is the high-level transmission of live music to listeners and concert audiences. Its repertoire covers the entire music literature from the Baroque to our days. The ensemble is the most competent interpreter of contemporary music in Hungary. As well as playing classical music, it is also well versed in interpreting lighter genres.
